Marlon King doing a bit of bird
« on: October 29, 2009, 06:29:22 PM »

18 months in the nick, and he is going to be sacked by Wigan.

Is it just me, or as he got away lightly with that. 18 months inside, which probably means he will serve half of that time. And its not the first time either. He has a string of previous convictions. Could and should have got 4 and a half years.

Agreed. Some sentences really don't make sense do they. It's like this Baby P thing.....how can you only get 5/6 years (of which, as you say, they'll probably only serve half) for killing a baby?

Surely that's 20 years at least, no matter how inept social services were deemed to be.

Commit fraud though and they lock you up and throw away the key. It's a nonsense really.

Good to see Wigan have sacked him though. He deserves that, if for no other reason that he kept it completely secret from the managers. He was basically lying to them and hoping he'd get away with it. Add in his past convictions, and it doesn't paint him in a very good light at all.

I love the fact he used the old "Do you know who I am?" line on her.  I'd laugh even more if she said something like "Oh, aren't you that guy who plays for Fulham and can't score for shit?"  ;D

"I'm a millionaire, love, I'm way out of your league."  What. A. Prick.

"In 2002 King, who lives in Hertfordshire, served five months of a two-year prison sentence for handling a stolen car before being released on appeal.

A year later, he was convicted for common assault on two women he chased through London with a belt wrapped round his fist. And in 2006 he was convicted of threatening behaviour after slapping another woman and then spitting at her when police arrived."

He's a real sweetie, ain't he.

His agent says that "he has rights as a professional athlete" - unfortunately he's probably right and some club will give him a route back into the game.

He'll be back, just like Lee Hughes and many more before him (Tony Adams etc).

Of course he'll get a route back into football. He's a reasonably talented player even if he is shite at the top level.

Anyone who's really talented in a certain field (talking top 100-200 in the country at what they do), will always find a job somewhere given similar circumstances.

That's not to say Wigan aren't right to sack him. Of course they are. No employer would stick by someone in similar circumstances, but it's odds-on that someone else will pick him up even if he has to drop down a level or two.

He probably would to a woman who didn't know much about football and had been drinking that night, not to mention a dark night-club environment helping her mistake him  :p

So you're saying that King's defence of mistaken identity could well be correct and it was actually Zamora? :p

Apparently QPR & Coventry are quite keen on securing his services.........I'm sure the female population of those respective areas are overjoyed to hear that.

(off topic I know, but what have the BBC done to their website - bloody awful layout)

where did the thread starter disappear to! :O

Just take me back, to the good old days of Dixie to glorious Goodison Park. Those proud Blue shirts took the road down to Wembley, where Dixie Dean hit the mark. In one league season back in 28, sixty goals he scored! he was larger than life! and greater than great! his record will stand forevermore!
