What keeps you at your terrible club?
« on: February 25, 2010, 11:59:31 PM »
Currently being kept at my woeful mid table club by the prospects of 2 or 3 youngsters. As LlaMas, there are many reasons in many seasons to jack it all in and head for sunnier climbs, but why do we stick with it?  Un-ending belief in the impossible, blind faith in the crepe you have put together, working class refusal to leave until offered terms? I'd love to know what keeps you going through these toughest of times. Inspire to succeed as the, er, Welsh once said ??.....

Garden leave hasn't been implemented yet so the game gets a little dull if you keep playing unemployed.

With me, there's always the belief that those players you've brought in over the close season are "the ones" and that you'll be storming up the league in the new season. You look at your squad and think "look at that......much better than last season.....I've done it!"

No you haven't.

The new signings are just as bad if not worse than the players they were supposed to replace and you do just as shit as before.

But then the cycle starts all over again.....

I'll agree with DAF on this, at the start of every season I think it will be better or an improvement on the last! It never really works out like that, I'm generally always annoyed with something or someone at the end of the season (my girlfriend says I take the game too seriously). Me personally being new to LLaMaism, I have found alot of inspiration from the updates on this site, I can see that if you stick with a club sometimes it all comes together and you get a great save.........there is perhaps a 1 in 10 chance of that though.......... maybe?

daf hit the nail on the head, really. I mean, come on -- you scraped an Oldham victory in the friendlies, this year -- it has to be the season you turn it around!

In game wages.  I've always had an in-game ethos that I ain't walking, no matter how sh*te things are unless I get sacked or offered more money elsewhere.  Likewise, unless I love the club I'm, walking the first time a better offer comes in.  Got to keep my in game WAG happy.....

Like most, I get stuck with the belief that I can turn the club around.

Then I watch all my "superb" signing tank ass, distrubt team harmony, and get me sacked.

But next time, I'll get it done!

What keeps me at the club? Basically the fact that I brought most of the current players in. I am favoured personnel to some of them. They respect my work here. The good job the scouts are doing is helping the team progress without big star signings. We recently broke the attendance record so the fans enjoy their time. More than 3000 people in 3rd flight game is great attendance.

The current sense of achievement in bringing my home-town team to the Championship.

Woking 6-4 Stevenage to seal promotion from League Two.

Managing the team I support, and have spent far too much watching play shite.

Holding Liverpool 0-0 at Anfield.

Seeing kids bought for peanuts that you've developed break into their national U21/U19 sides.

Sitting atop the Championship :M

Not feeling bad rejecting a "once in a lifetime" chance to manage Real in order to stay at Kingfield.

I like to get to a point where every player is my own, carp or otherwise.

And of course the romance of the one club manager  :D

It's all about the journeyman!

Unfortunately, for me, that equates to multiple sackings and relegations. =/

Just coming up to end of 2nd season on Blue Square South  - 4 more games to go  :D

Team is well on track to a respectable to half of table finish (we are sitting in 7th) with an outside chance of making playoffs if we win most of our last few games and other teams lose theirs.

We have exceeded board and fans expectations for the last two seasons in all areas except finances (it cost a lot of money to get rid of the boat-anchor of a player/coach and home game attendances were very poor in the first season).

My alter ego's contract is up at the end of this season, there has been a media article that has stated that the Maidenhead board are worried that I may leave the club and are looking at alternate  :S

Then another media article links my alter ego to be contender for the Boston Utd  job. I take a quick look and while Boston is 2nd in Blue Square North and have much better facilities, they appear to be in debt and have morale issues. Wikipedia indicates that the club has a less than virtueous history (club went into administration for failing to pay HMRC, Chairman and some of the board members were charged with fraud) and while I have not been to Maidenshead or Boston, I get the impression from the Wikipedia articles on each of the towns, that my alter ego would probably prefer raising his young family in Maidenshead over moving them to Boston (please enlighten me if I am wrong). So I guess what is keeping me at my club is the realisation that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence (well when the other side of the fence is Boston anyway).

I quickly responded by putting a board request for a new contract, to which the board has responded that they are putting together an offer and will get back to me . . .  :'( suggest that SI needs to add a feature to allow human managers to set their General Happiness as "Slightly unhappy / unhappy due to uncertainity about future at club" so that Chairman can do a media release to saying that he is "Pleased at [Human Manager's] management form" and "Will do his utmost to re-sign him"  :D

Update - one game to go and the Chairman offers me a new two year contract on the same money. I negotiate it out to three years, which they accept :celebrate: so I guess it is also the new contract and that my club is not all that terrible

That sense that next year we will do better. i tend to stay about 8-10 years at a club then start to get so frustrated that I resign and go to a new club. Then after about 2 weeks I wish I hadn't of resigned and tend to terminate my save :)

Yeah, I have that problem too. If I've stuck with a club for a long time, I can rarely motivate myself to manage elsewhere. I think turning into a tactical cretin and getting the sack long before that stage has oddly helped extend my career!

With all the tips you're getting from the tactical forum, I should hope so.

I have a rule. If I stay away from any screen with the word "boardroom" on it, I can stay at a club forever. The second I find that screen, it's P45 time.
