Why I've quit? A few reasons.

First, and most important, money. My local side Rijeka asked for 50K € for a first-team slot and for signing a professional contract. Just to be on the bench for a season! That was totally disgusting cause i gave my best 9 years of life to that club and strangely i still love them. I played for Rijeka since i was 9 years old. That's how they treat youth systems in Croatian football. You have to pay to play.

Second, they demanded that a player agency owned me. I was not willing to let that happen, as i wanted to be the ownership of NK Rijeka. But no, things don't go that way in Croatian football.

Third, my weaker (left) foot was crushed like 5-6 times during those 9 years. The last time i was out for 3 months, barely finished high school, cause of a moron that kicked me into the banners close to the pitch. While running down the left (Gazza-style) i out-dribbled him, but he came again when i was about to cross and he pushed me into the banners. Result? Torn ligaments, 3 months out, the match was paused for 15 minutes till the ambulance arrived. At 17 years of age. Go figure.

Those are the three main reasons.

Anyway, i played as a central midfielder, type of player Niko Kranjcar/Juninho Pernambucano. Niko Kranjcar because i was a bit overweight (Gazza/Maradona style)  and Juninho because of hitting free kicks on a regular basis. And the fact Juninho was born on the same date as me, except a few years before. January 30th.

I guess you could say i tended towards slowing the tempo and orchestrating the midfield and attack. When i got the chance, obviously.

Out of interest.....why not turn this into an official Arsenal thread.

We haven't got one at the moment, and there seems to at least be a couple of you out there!

Could just change the title of this thread, seeing as though it's kind of become an Arsenal thread anyway.....

[Stewie Griffin]Oh, no waaay[/Stewie Griffin]

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...utd/6911613.stm

I\'m not surprised Freddie\'s going (to be honest, I was surprised it didn\'t happen last summer), but West Ham seems an odd place to go, especially after declaring he wouldn\'t leave Arsenal for another English club...

I won\'t say the guy\'s \"unspeakably stupid\" (possibly my quote of the year) because I think it\'s an excellent move for him. Let\'s hope he doesn\'t get hampered by any possible side-effects of this whole Tevez thing.

I think the reason he\'s ended up back-tracking on that statement through this move is that none of his overseas suitors were prepared to pay £60k+ p/w wages.  West Ham have deep pockets on the other hand.

yeah its surely just a money and new challenge move
its more positive than negative both for arsenal and freddie as far as im concerned

Negatives about it are arsenal relished his experience
and freddie has heroic status at arsenal

but on the possitive, freddie had one of his worst seasons last season and there are stronger players, but now maybe its the chance to see another signing in the wing position  any thoughts?

Well, Arsenal have no wingers left (no natural wingers, anyway), so it\'s certainly time to start dipping into that Henry money!

Do these players carry a light green spot on their back or their ass?

I always found that concept annoying, and certainly AW does as well, since he just sold his only natural wingers to Barca and WHU. If he was playing FM for the last ten years, he would not have a squad at all, for sure. I do not know any other coach who retrained more people successfully.

What is going on with Bernie Ecclestone and Arsenal? I did not know the guy is interested in football, but why the heck does he declare interest in buying Arsenal?   I suppose this would be the final end of AW and the start of glamour and so called big business?

Well, possibly not.

Bernie has said that he\'s not a football fan, but he\'s good friends with David Dein. I can sense a possible, how can we say, compromise here, and one more palatable than taking Yankee money.

Bernie might re-install Dein for all matters football, which will help the side on the field and mean that a \"fan\" with no knowledge but loads-a-money (like Romanov, for example) won\'t be meddling with stuff he knows next to nothing about. However, Ecclestone\'s ability to take a \"brand\" and get it out there (just look at F1) is well proven. This could encourage business growth while at the same time keeping the playing side out of all the politics.

Possibly. Then again, Briatore (of ex-Benetton and now Renault F1 fame) is linked with Queens Park Rangers. So god knows what\'s happening.

This one goes out to Pete Waterman (of \'Locomotion\' and \'Especially for You\' fame) - get your music friends to invest in Walsall! If Tommy Mooney\'s going to be our best player this year, then we need a little bit of youth investment.

Did not know that, thanks. By now I found some according articles at skysports, as well pointing out that AW seems to be in a good mood for renewing his contract. So, there is some hope.

Yes, a highly jammy win for Arsenal.

Lehmann definitely has c*ck-up of the season wrapped up already though.

Just because of two howlers? You will see many more from other keepers and usually he calms down pretty fast.

Btw: I could not manage to see Eduardo and Sagna so far. How are the first impressions? Just noticed that yesterday Sagna played for France as well. Looks like the SI researcher did not the best job on him so far, hopefully this will change before 08 is out.

I\'m pretty impressed with Sagna so far, actually. He links up very well with Eboué on the right-hand side, the two overlapping quite a bit.

It looks as if Wenger\'s given up trying to teach Eboué to defend (probably a wise decision ) and is grooming him for the wing. When Adebayor and Eduardo get to full fitness, though, it will be interesting whether Hleb can oust him.

The only thing is he looks like a total dick with those blonde highlights.

lehmann does more than any two howlers a season. shame the refs dont do enough justice and show him more cards for his petulant act of trying to be the biggest nobhead - on average he should pick up at least one yellow card per game for his poor sportsmanship/trying to get players booked/shouting abuse at the ref/starting on the opposition/deliberately trying to injure the opposition. if he wasnt at arsenal would he get away with it?

Yes. In exactly the same way Shearer did exactly the same things. Difference was Shearer was more subtle about it.

Exactly and it's not just the howlers either, our game against the Arse at the Emirates last season and he's having a bad game so what does he do? Have an argument with a defender who makes his first mistake in the 80th minute of course. Of course we got that corner because the defender didn't pass it straight to Lehmann rather than the fact Lehmann couldn't hold on to it and dropped it out of play. And then there's the Lehmann Drogba pantomime act. And his dives any time Steven Hunt gets within a 20 metre radius of him.

I did not say he was Mr. nice guy on the pitch. But if you have ever seen Kahn for a long time you will see Mad Jens as a nice, harmless, almost shy and very polite man...

So, Arsenal is the richest club in England, without any sugar daddies? How surprising is that? It looks like Wenger's long-term-concept finally does pay off. I still  wonder somehow what they want to do with all that money after building a great stadium and having a great squad, since it seems that Wenger does not have the slightest interest in buying big, at least not if compared to other European top teams.

Yes, Arsenal = well run football club.

They have a manager who doesn't feel the need to buy "big names", but still brings in real quality.

Certain other people (not just managers, might I add) could learn from this.

Perhaps Wenger is like the rest of us, and doesn't think footballers are worth £30m a pop?
