Two words - Squad rotation.

Houllier did it.  Rafa does it.  The thing is, I understand the need for it in so far as keeping players fresh and allowing fringe players to get match practise but Rafa, for example, rotated Torres out of the team the game after he'd scored a hat-trick.  Too much meddling ruins consistency and I think that's the problem at Anfield.  How often do Chelsea rest Lampard, Drogba, Cech or Carvalho?  How often do Arsenal rest Fabregas, Toure and Adebayor?  Or MU rest Rooney, Tevez, Ronaldo or Ferdinand?  Not often.  Yet Rafa happily gives his best players games off.  That's their downfall imo.

I think recently this could be put down to priorities.......Rafa has made it perfectly clear that his priority is the CL, despite all the fans (including Gerrard) making it perfectly clear that the one thing they really want is the Premiership.

Interesting that you mention priorities. In that case Liverpool's squad does seem lacking or maybe it's their coaching because to me MU and Chelsea were able to challenge on two fronts considerably better than Liverpool. JP also mentioned Rafa's rotation policy which hindered their consistency. Have to agree on this. I wonder why he did that and if he takes into consideration how MU or Chelsea or Arsenal deal with rotation frequency.

While I do agree it's an inflated price by a few million, what else were they going to spend their money on? There's no point in taking all the money they made on Crouch, Riise, etc. and leaving it in the bank.

I think that if they sold Alonso to Juventus, they would have spend this type of fee on Barry. Being that they already have enough central midfielders, Keane is a much better signing.

With Torres & Keane up front now, I wouldn't be suprised seeing Gerrard play a winger role either left/right (depending on either Kuyt or Babel starting) and having both Alonso & Mascherano together in the center.

Tottenham are the winners of that bid. Ramos is still rebuilding.. He can now get a striker that suits him. the "telepathic" relationship that they share wouldn't be as effective or won't exist now since one of the partners are gone.. But, I don't know why.. I just see Robbie Keane as a flop for Lpool

Just take me back, to the good old days of Dixie to glorious Goodison Park. Those proud Blue shirts took the road down to Wembley, where Dixie Dean hit the mark. In one league season back in 28, sixty goals he scored! he was larger than life! and greater than great! his record will stand forevermore!

£8 for a ticket to see Indiana Jones, ridiculous. Great film though, luckily I have a Tesco's 2 mins from the cinema. Get the food & drinks there.

Thing is, Liverpool need to win the league now, or Rafa's out of the job. All of his targets this season, have not been young players. Your looking for experianced top premiership players, who are quite underrated. I don't mind the £20 Million on Keane or Barry, yes abit pricy. But if it brings us the league, I don't care. Comparing Alonso to Barry? Barry in the Premiership, Alonso in a slower paced league like Spain or International Football. Keane is a second striker and gets 20 goals a season, not bad? Even on a bad season he'd get double figures. Plus he'd have more service at Liverpool.

- Barry brings balance to the team, plus it'd keep Gerrard in the centre.
- Keane can bring Gerrard in from the midfield who links up with Torres, goal written all over it.
- Kuyt will go out wide, you doubt him there. Look what he done for Liverpool and Holland in 2008 in that position, he was fantastic.
- We just need a winger for the left now, please get Silva. Overrated on FM, but quality none the less.

I'd have to agree with you. I can't see Keane having much success at Liverpool. Do you think he'll be the addition that will bring you a league title, Briang?

Well, this is his last real season in football. If not this season, then he's a flop.

Totally agree with that. He'll have to work hard this season.

By the way, how do you guys feel about the whole Barry saga? Last I heard, the deal is now off completely.

how is it his last season? pool fans are funny  my friend is an ardent one and he thinks he will be brilliant and i have to agree. i think he will forgo some of the goals for setting up and bringing an entirely new dimension to the team right from when the ball leaves the goalkeepers hands....so yea he'll be a flop haha

He's 28 though, he's obviously only got one more year left in him.

I have to say (although I am biased) I think he's a brilliant player. He works hard, he's always moving into space and drawing defenders out of position and he scores quite a few goals as well. Just a shame he went to bloody Liverpool.

I'm not sure Keane will be an out and out success......yes, ok he's a good player and he'll do alright, but I think he'll struggle properly cement himself in their starting line-up.

Then again, no one cements themselves in Liverpool's starting line-up the way Rafa rotates do they?!!

As for this being Rafa's last season if he doesn't win the league - not sure there's quite that much pressure on him, but I think he does have to mount a genuine title challenge this year. If they don't win the league, they'll at least want to go close, as even that's been lacking in recent seasons.

i think he will sacrifice goals and be less selfish but i also initially thought hed been bought as torres back up? maybe?

Rafa went for the 4-5-1 last season, I think he'll put Keane in Gerrards role and Gerrard on the right.

I know.

28 is over the hill now? Despite the fact that players are able to play much longer than they could 20 years ago? Shearer, Sherringham and Larrson are lauging in your face, to be honest, briang.

For what it's worth, I think it's a good signing - proven goalscorer in England, decent all-round game, and has a record of scoring when it counts for Ireland and Tottenham. Not sure what all the negativity is about, to be honest. For a top Premier League standard goal scorer, £20m seems higher than average but not ludicrous.

Yeah, I'm reasonably happy with the signing of Keane. He has done for his previous clubs what a great player should do (I'm talking to you Stevie) - he's scored when it's most important which is what this club needs. The amount of times we've lost games by the skin of our teeth or drawn games we should have won over the past couple of seasons is quite vexing. At 20 million pounds it's clearly more than he's worth, but if you are a top club you're going to have to pay that sort of money for a goalscorer, that's just the way the world works.

Barry and Keane cost so much because the clubs desperatly wanted to keep them, so get as much cash as you can. *Waits for a "No s**t sherlock"*

And of course any player that a big club is looking at should be coveted by their current club otherwise whoever's buying them is just plain silly.
